A grand-strategy game of the American Civil War. Lead the Union or the Confederacy from 1861, and hold your nation together.
IN DEVELOPMENTHouse Divided is a Civil War grand-strategy game being built in Unity by Frank LeSage Jr. Every campaign begins in 1861. You create your own general (name, home state, background, branch of service and two traits), then you guide your side through the war.

Each turn moves through laws, building, purchasing and battle phases. The war economy uses real 1861 dollars, and inflation, loans and bonds work as they did then. Historical laws go to a vote in Congress, from the Morrill Tariff and the Legal Tender Act to the Confederate Tax-in-Kind. Your diplomats work in London, Paris, Mexico and other capitals. In battle you choose an objective, and holding it decides who wins.

59 historical commanders appear in the game. Every likeness comes from a real public-domain period photograph or engraving. No portrait is AI-generated.

The campaign is played on a map of the United States as it stood in 1861, with its states and territories, from the Eastern Theater in Virginia to the Western rivers and the Trans-Mississippi. Battles are fought on hex maps of 31 historical fields, from Fort Sumter to Appomattox.

Screens and art from work in progress. The game will change before release.

The game will have music of the era, and period piano music is planned for the soundtrack.
